PM Holness says citizens are to be mindful of those disadvantaged by Hurricane Beryl as the country celebrates independence

Prime Minister Andrew Holness has called on the nation to be mindful of citizens who are still without electricity and water due to the passage of Hurricane Beryl, even as it celebrates 62 years of independence.

In his independence message, the Prime Minister noted that while some citizens are still disadvantaged due to the passage of Hurricane Beryl efforts continue to provide aid.

He said to better respond to disasters such as Beryl, government will appoint a committee to review Jamaica’s overall performance mechanisms to natural disasters and make suggestions for strengthening it.

He said these are among actions that must be taken in keeping with the obligations and responsibilities that come with independence.
