PM Holness’ salary increase decline to affect former Prime Ministers
Finance Minister Dr. Nigel Clarke has explained that the request by Prime Minister Andrew Holness to cap his salary to the current scale, will affect anyone holding the office.
This means that the pay scale and associated pension for retired prime ministers will remain as is.
The comments come in the wake of public outrage about the salary increase for members of the political directorate, and an indication from Mr. Holness that he will forgo the increase, which would have pushed his pay from 9 to 28 million dollars.
Dr. Clarke stressed that the cap is not applicable to an individual.
He was responding to questions during a post cabinet press briefing, this morning.
