PM Holness proposes meeting to make entertainment spaces genuinely safe
Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness says he has proposed a formal meeting with entertainment promoters and relevant stakeholders to discuss ways in which entertainment spaces can be made genuinely safe.
Dr. Holness’ proposal comes as he seeks to dispel claims that the authorities and his administration are against parties.
This amidst concerns from several citizens about restrictions placed on parties due to police curfews and other enforcement measures.
The Prime Minister notes that while the intention is not to shut down events, a partnership and understanding must be developed, where entertainment is seen as a safe space.
He has called for a new framework of shared responsibility, wherein safety is seen as a priority and a prerequisite for the growth of the sector.
He says the meeting is necessary, as the country risks losing the hard-won gains made in reducing crime.
