Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness has pointed out that the new Little London police station in Westmoreland is symbolic of resilience and a return to normality, following Hurricane Melissa.

Speaking at the official opening ceremony yesterday, Dr. Holness noted that questions have been raised about the event, in the midst of the national crisis.

Dr. Holness said police stations generally have served affected communities during and after the storm, so it’s fitting to have facilities that allow police officers to work effectively.

He said the Little London station was designed to grow with the community, providing room for expanded operations, enhanced resilience during climate-related events, and has a layout that strengthens engagement between citizens and law enforcement.

He said policing demands discipline, integrity, and sacrifice, and the men and women of the Little London police station remain central to the safety and stability of the community.

Dr. Holness said as the country returns to normal operation, events such as yesterday’s ceremony, show citizens that they can celebrate when good things happen in the country.

The Little London police station was constructed at a cost of approximately $200m and funded by the National Housing Trust, under the Ministry of National Security project rebuild, overhaul and construct initiative.

The two-storey facility features living quarters, detention cells, a laundry area, water harvesting systems and other modern amenities designed to support effective policing.

Construction of the station commenced in 2022 and marks another significant investment in strengthening Jamaica’s security infrastructure.
