PM Holness welcomes establishment of private hospital in Portmore
Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness has welcomed the establishment of a private hospital in Portmore, St. Catherine, even as he reassured residents that works are moving apace to establish a public one there soon.
The Tensei Mae Robinson Medical Complex, located in Braeton is owned by investor Dwight Robinson.
The 23-bed facility will provide a range of advanced medical services to the residents of the municipality.
It offers cutting-edge diagnostic imaging services such as CT scan, X-ray, mammography, and ultrasound, as well as surgical specialties including neurology, general surgery and gynaecology.Â
The private hospital, named in honour of Mr. Robinson’s mother, features three fully equipped operating theatres, a high-dependency unit, a pharmacy and an accident and emergency area to accommodate walk-in patients.
During a tour of the facility yesterday, Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness noted that with construction nearly complete, the owner and other stakeholders are now awaiting inspections and final approval from the Ministry of Health and Wellness to begin operations.
Dr. Holness acknowledged the importance of adequate access to healthcare for the more than 200,000 residents of Portmore.
The Prime Minister also reiterated the government’s commitment to building a full-service public hospital in Portmore, on land already identified in the Bernard Lodge area.
