PM Holness defends acceptance of increased $28.5 million salary package
Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness has hit back at Opposition Leader Mark Golding for comments in relation to his acceptance of the increased salary package.
In 2023, Dr. Holness declined the $28.5 million package.
However, last month he said that after careful review and internal consultations, he will accept it.
During the budget debate on Tuesday, Mr. Golding described the announcement as a shameful deception.
Dr. Holness, in hitting back at the Opposition Leader during his budget debate presentation today, said that in addition to his role as Prime Minister, he heads four ministries.
He noted that he receives almost the same salary as Mr. Golding.
Dr. Holness again explained why he took the increase.
Some parliamentarians then erupted in laughter after the Prime Minister said he brought a gift for Mr. Golding and revealed a cap with the words “ANTI-BADMIND.”
