Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness has urged Jamaicans to never take the service of police officers for granted nor ignore the sacrifices they make.

He was reacting to the murder of Corporal Kamal Mayne.

The cop was killed at his home in Old Harbour, St. Catherine this morning.

In a statement, Holness said the killing of Corporal Mayne is a heart breaking blow to the Jamaica Constabulary Force and entire country.

Holness noted that Corporal Mayne served in the JCFfor 20 years, with his last posting at the Kingston Western police division.

The Prime Minister said Corporal Mayne served the people of Jamaica by ensuring their safety.

He pointed out that every day, police men and women put themselves in harm’s way to build a more peaceful and secure Jamaica.

He said the progress the county is now seeing, with crime at its lowest levels in decades, has come at great cost.

It is a result of strategy, investment and the tireless work of those who wear the uniform with integrity.

Holness urged citizens to not lose sight of the fact that the officers are human beings, are fathers, sons, mothers, daughters, who risk their lives for a safer Jamaica and who continue to serve and protect with courage, even in the face of personal danger.

He said Corporal Mayne’s life mattered and that his death will not be in vain.

The Prime Minister said the government and nation mourn with Corporal Mayne’s family and with the JCF

He appealed to anyone with information on Corporal Mayne’s killing to provide it to the police.
