PM Holness again assures that by-elections will be held soon for areas without representation

Prime Minister Andrew Holness has again sought to assure that by-elections will be held soon for other constituencies or divisions that are without political representation.

This is in the wake of criticism that he announced a by-election for only North East St Ann, and not all areas that are without representation.

South Trelawny remains without a Member of Parliament since the resignation of Marisa Dalrymple Philibert last year and come next month, St Andrew North West will lose Dr. Nigel Clarke.

Additionally, concern has been raised about the lack of a local government by-election for the Morant Bay Division in St Thomas, as the exercise is now due, having been delayed by 3 months.

Speaking today in North East St Ann, following the nomination of Matthew Samuda as the JLP’s candidate for the upcoming by-election, Mr. Holness noted that this exercise is the first of several to come.

The People’s National Party will not contest the North East St Ann by-election.

Mr. Samuda will face off against an independent candidate and a member of the United Independents Congress, come September 30.

Mr. Holness urged JLP supporters to not take the by-election for granted.
