PM Holness announces establishment of National Reconstruction Resilience Authority
Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness has announced the establishment of the National Reconstruction Resilience Authority, in response to the need for a more coordinated approach to natural disasters and the reconstruction of infrastructure.
Speaking at a press conference today , Dr. Holness acknowledged that Hurricane Melissa taught Jamaica many lessons, including the fact that fragmented government ministries and agencies may not be the best approach.
Dr. Holness said the NaRRA will be financed through the national Natural Disaster Recovery Fund with an initial amount of over US$600 million.
The Prime Minister stated that the government may have to borrow additional funds for reconstruction efforts.
