PM Holness and other CARICOM leaders to meet tomorrow to discuss growing tension between Guyana and Venezuela among other issues
Prime Minister Andrew Holness and other CARICOM leaders will meet tomorrow to discuss various issues, including the growing tension between Guyana and Venezuela, regarding control of the disputed Essequibo region.
The matter was raised Wednesday evening, during the Let’s Connect with Ambassador Audrey Marks Virtual Forum.
Responding to questions from members of the Jamaican diaspora, Mr. Holness noted that Friday’s meeting will allow CARICOM leaders to examine the myriad of threats in the region to build capacity and ensure peace in the Caribbean.
Mr. Holness said Jamaica’s foreign policy, in terms of national interest, has been consistent on the territorial integrity of a country.
Meantime, Foreign Affairs Minister Kamina Johnson Smith expressed hope that a peaceful resolution to the dispute can be found.
