PM challenges nation to resist being spectators and become more involved in shaping Jamaica as country celebrates 63 years of independence

Prime Minister, Dr. Andrew Holness is challenging the nation to resist being spectators and become more involved in shaping a country they desire.

This as Jamaica celebrates 63 years of independence today under the theme, “Be Proud, Be Bold in the Black, Green and Gold.”

In his Independence Day message to the nation, Dr. Holness points to the investments and progress made so far.

He notes, however, that there is more work to be done to build a country that lives up to the promise of 1962, when Jamaica was officially declared an independent State.

Dr. Holness explains that progressing to such a goal will not be automatic, and will require deliberate participation from all citizens.

He says independence means Jamaicans have the agency and duty to choose the future they want and not to leave that choice to others.
