PM Andrew Holness says the Gov’t has to take action amidst the violence affecting the country as he announced SOE in St. Catherine
Prime Minister Andrew Holness says the Government has to take action amidst the violence affecting the country.
He made the comment after announcing the declaration of a State of Emergency for St Catherine this morning (June 17).
Mr Holness explained that the declaration was made on the recommendation of the Heads of security forces and came after careful consideration and review of the crime situation.
The Prime Minister said the Government’s first responsibility is the preservation and protection of life.
He described violence as a disease, noting that many Jamaicans have come to accept violence.
According to Mr Holness, the main cause of violence that creates the fear or terror seen in some communities is the organized criminal activity of gangs, guns and the young men recruited by the gangs.
He says the Government must act within the boundaries of the law.
