Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness and Education Minister Dr. Dana Morris-Dixon are to tour some schools today under the hurricane Melissa school infrastructure repairs and school reopening tour.

Several schools sustained significant damage during the passage of hurricane Melissa last October.

This led to the closure of some institutions while others were used as shelters.

Last year, Dr. Dixon said steps would be taken to ensure that all schools are reopened this term to lessen learning loss.

According to the Education Ministry, today’s tour will be led by Minister Morris-Dixon and forms part of the government’s ongoing efforts to ensure the safe reopening of schools and the timely restoration of educational facilities impacted by hurricane Melissa.

The ministry says during the tour, the minister and Prime Minister will inspect hurricane-related damage at selected schools, review the progress of infrastructure repair works and engage with school administrators and key stakeholders.

In addition, both leaders will also provide updates on government interventions to restore learning environments.

According to the Education Ministry, the initiative highlights the government’s commitment to education continuity, student safety, and building resilience in the education sector, particularly in communities affected by extreme weather events.
