PIOJ warns tourism sector could be impacted if Hantavirus and Ebola outbreaks continue
The Planning Institute of Jamaica (PIOJ) says the tourism sector could be negatively impacted if the Hantavirus and Ebola outbreaks are not brought under control.
Director General, Dr. Wayne Henry made the statement while answering questions at a press conference yesterday.
According to Dr. Henry, while it did not include the Hantavirus or Ebola outbreaks in its projections for Jamaica’s economy, the institute is cognizant of the possible implications.
However, he acknowledged that the Government and players within the tourism sector have implemented several initiatives following the recent COVID-19 pandemic to counter these implications.
He expressed hope that those initiatives will cushion the challenges tourism workers might experience.
