PIOJ says it’s unlikely that Jamaica will experience an economic recession in the short term, barring any unforeseen shock

Director General of the Planning Institute of Jamaica (PIOJ), Dr. Wayne Henry said it is unlikely that Jamaica will experience an economic recession in the short term, barring any unforeseen shock.

He made the remarks yesterday during the PIOJ’s quarterly review, providing preliminary estimates for the economy’s performance in the October–December 2025 quarter.

Dr. Henry explained that a recession is defined as a significant slowdown in economic activity or two consecutive quarters of a quarter-on quarter decline.

A further decline in the January–March 2026 quarter relative to the last quarter of 2025 would be required for this condition to be met.
