PIOJ projects that economy will contract by 13% for October/December quarter
The Planning Institute of Jamaica (PIOJ), has stated that the economy is expected to contract by 13 percent in the 0ctober – December quarter.
PIOJ Director General Dr Wayne Henry noted that this is due mainly to impact from Hurricane Melissa.
Speaking at a quarterly press briefing today Dr Henry pointed out that its expected that there will be increased unemployment.
He said the extent of the damage from the storm is unprecedented and far reaching.
Dr Henry said the projected economic contraction for fiscal year 2025 / 2026 is within the 3 to 6 percent range.
