Peter Tosh’s, Legalize It turns fifty this year and the Peter Tosh foundation is hosting an event dubbed peter tosh- the sun of reggae to commemorate this milestone.

Slated for February 22 at the peter tosh memorial park in Belmont, Westmoreland the celebration will feature live performances and an outside broadcast of the Africa Forum with host Kabu Ma’at Kheru.

Music news spoke with the reggae legend’s son Dave Tosh who says despite the perception of marijuana changing radically in recent years, his father would still have issues with the pace at which legalization of the herb is happening.

In 1976 Tosh released the classic hit, Legalize It from the album of the same name. The song was written by Tosh in response to his ongoing victimization by the Jamaican police, but it was also a political statement pushing for the legalization of marijuana. The song has become an anthem that has brought like-minded exponents of the herb together.
