Montego Bay United has confirmed the appointment of former national striker Paul ‘Tegat’ Davis as the new head coach, following the club’s parting of ways with Argentine coach Rudolfo Zapata by mutual consent on Saturday.

Davis, a legend of the sport and former Seba United star, is no stranger to the club. This marks his second stint with Montego Bay United, a team he previously guided to the Jamaica Premier League (JPL) title in 2016.

At 62 years old, Davis brings a wealth of experience to the table, with an impressive coaching track record that includes stints at Mount Pleasant between 2017-2021, and Arnett Gardens from 2010 to 2012 and again from 2021 to 2023.

He will be supported by Andrew Peart, who has been appointed Technical Director. Peart, who was named Head of Coaching Education by the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) in 2021, led Glenmuir High School to back-to-back ISSA Champions Cup titles in 2024. He has also coached Jamaica College and the University of the West Indies, and served as an assistant coach at Barbican and Manchester High.

“With the abrupt departure of Rodolfo Zapata, Montego Bay United FC has taken the opportunity to strategically strengthened its leadership by appointing a dynamic duo that blends experience with fresh vision,” the club said in a statement.

“As a club, we took a deliberate approach in evaluating what was needed for both short-term success and long-term dominance. We are confident that this leadership team, working alongside our exceptional existing staff—including Dillion Thilwell, Loxley Reid, our Strength & Conditioning team, and Physio Dr. Kevin Christie—provides the final piece to our foundation for the future.

While winning the league and qualifying for the Caribbean Cup remain top priorities, our vision extends far beyond this season. We are committed to building a winning organization from the ground up, with a strong emphasis on youth development. We believe that by strengthening the pipeline of talent within Jamaica, Montego Bay United FC will not only reclaim domestic glory but also establish itself as a powerhouse in the region for years to come.”

Montego Bay United are currently third on the JPL standings with 48 points. The team on Monday secured an impressive 3-1 victory over Tivoli Gardens to close out Match Day 26 courtesy of goals by Owayne Gordon (30′), Jordan Britto (72′) and Jourdain Fletcher (89′) with Nickalia Fuller (92+3′) responding for the visitors.

Davis will get his first taste of action on Thursday when they face Racing United at the Catherine Hall Sports Complex. Kick-off for the match is set for 6:00 PM.
