Young professional affiliate of the Jamaica Labour Party Generation 2000 has called on Peoples National Party caretaker for St. Mary Central Omar Newell, to retract a recent social media comment concerning Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Paula Llewellyn.
His comment was made on X, formerly Twitter, hours after the United Kingdom’s Privy Council quashed the murder convictions of entertainer Vybz Kartel and his three co- appellants and sent the matter back to the local court for a determination on re-trial.
G-2-K President Shane Kerr said he is deeply concerned about the implications of Newell’s comment, especially considering the high-profile nature of the case.
Describing the comment as reckless and defamatory Kerr noted that it not only casts doubt on the professionalism and impartiality of the DPP, but also poses safety risks to the staff of that office.
