Over 900 modular homes arrive on the island
Over 900 modular container homes, which were procured by the Government to address housing issues following Hurricane Melissa, have arrived on the island.
That’s according to State Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister, Senator Abka Fitz-Henley.
He gave the update while making his contribution to the debate on the National Reconstruction and Resilience Authority (NaRRA) Bill in the Upper House yesterday.
He was responding to a concern raised by Opposition Senator Dr. Floyd Morris about housing not being sufficiently referenced in the NaRRA Bill.
Senator Morris, who is the Spokesperson on Housing and Sustainable Development, also requested an update on the modular homes.
Senator Fitz-Henley pointed out that the absence of a stand-alone purpose clause in the NaRRA Bill does not invalidate the intent of the Act.
On the matter of container homes, the Government Senator noted that the Prime Minister convened a meeting with several agencies, including the National Housing Trust, and advised that thousands of houses have been purchased.
