Over $32 billion collected by Airbnb owners and operators last year

Jamaican Airbnb owners and operators collected over thirty-two billion dollars in revenue last year.

Government Senator and State Minister of Tourism Delano Seiveright says these earnings stemmed from nearly 840,000 guests.

He says this is a massive increase when compared to the nearly 60,000 Airbnb guests in 2017.

Senator Seiveright describes the growth as a symbol of the revolution of the sector.

Noting that the Government remains committed to transforming the sector, Senator Seiveright says it is pleasing to see that community tourism is thriving.

Community tourism focuses on ensuring that local communities benefit directly from tourism, with the community having full ownership and management of the tourism experience, promoting cultural exchange and preserving local heritage.

Senator Seiveright also pointed to instances where tourists are seen in inner-city communities.

Senator Seiveright was speaking during today’s sitting of the Senate.
