Over 14,000 recovery grants delivered to citizens adversely affected by Hurricane Beryl; prayer spared us full blow -PM Holness
Prime Minister Andrew Holness says over 14,000 recovery grants have been delivered to citizens who were affected adversely during the passage of Hurricane Beryl last July.
Following the Category 4 hurricane, the Ministry of Social Security implemented a one billion dollar relief programme aimed at helping impacted residents rebuild their homes.
Beneficiaries received cash grants ranging in value from $50,000 to $400,000.
Other organizations, such as the World Food Programme, the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) and local entities also partnered with the Ministry to assist.
Speaking at this morning’s “Heal the Family, Heal the Nation” church service at the National Arena in Kingston, the Prime Minister said Jamaica has rebounded.
He stressed that despite the devastation caused by Hurricane Beryl, the country was spared when compared to the impact of previous severe weather systems.
He attributed this to prayer.
