More than 100,000 assessments have been completed so far under the Government’s Restoration of Owner or Occupant Family Shelters (ROOFS) Programme, with activities carried out over the past four months.

Minister of Labour and Social Security, Pearnel Charles Jr., provided the update during this morning’s Post-Cabinet press briefing.

The programme provides financial assistance to eligible homeowners whose houses were damaged during Hurricane Melissa.

It forms part of the wider Shelter Recovery Programme, which received a $10 billion allocation to support recovery efforts.

He noted that the next step will involve reviewing and cleaning the beneficiary list to ensure there is no duplication.

Mr. Charles Jr stressed that the assistance is limited to one benefit per household to ensure fairness and proper distribution of the funds.

Meanwhile, the Minister is urging beneficiaries of the programme to redeem their building material vouchers before they expire.

He said persons who have received a text message or QR code, through the We-Pay system, must act quickly to collect the materials from approved merchants.

According to Mr. Charles, the messages carry an expiration date, and beneficiaries are being encouraged to redeem them within the next three weeks.

He stressed that individuals who have already received the QR code should visit participating merchants as soon as possible to access the materials allocated to them under the Programme.
