OUR establishes special internal team to provide direction to JPS following preliminary report on islandwide blackout

The Office of Utilities Regulation (OUR) has established a special internal team to provide direction to the Jamaica Public Service (JPS) following the utility company’s submission of its preliminary report on the islandwide blackout last Friday.

In a release today, the OUR said the team will also undertake necessary preparations, and review the final report to determine its validity, the relevance of JPS‘ recommendations, and the actions specified by JPS that are to follow.

The OUR said the team is authorised to provide the OUR with advice on the necessary resources, including the engagement of any external expertise, to ensure a thorough and comprehensive examination of the blackout incident.

It said the team is also authorised to make its own recommendations and to identify the requisite regulatory actions to be taken.

OUR’s Director-General, Ansord Hewitt pointed out that the preliminary incident report from the JPS serves as a guide for post restoration concerns and directives.
