Orientation activities at Sheffield Primary affected as residents protesting poor road conditions chained school’s gate
Orientation activities did not commence as planned at the Sheffield Primary School in Westmoreland this morning as protesting residents placed chains on the institution’s gate.
The protestors, who also mounted blockades along the thoroughfare leading to the school, are upset over the poor road condition.
Early this morning, the Westmoreland police told IRIE FM News that lawmen were in the area removing the blockade and monitoring the situation.
Providing an update on the situation, School Principal, Dr. Vinnette Malcolm said firefighters were working to remove the chains to allow access to the institution.
she said several students have returned home.
She noted that while she agrees that the roadway needs improvement there is an issue with blocking students’ access to the school.
