Organizers of the car racing event at Vernamfield, Clarendon, which left one woman dead and three other people injured yesterday (July 17), say all safety protocols were followed, ahead of the event’s staging.

Reports are that at about 4 PM, a race car got out of control and ploughed into a section of the crowd at the event.

The organizers’ response, comes after questions were raised about whether or not the event was safe for staging.

In a release issued this morning, the organizers said the event was given the green light by the Jamaica Millennium Motoring Club, the Clarendon Municipal Corporation, the Jamaica Fire Brigade and the Jamaica Constabulary Force.

It pointed out that all necessary and mandatory precautions to ensure the safety of each spectator, participant and team member were carried out.

On the matter of barriers, the organizers said integral barriers and caution signs were also erected, as well as the availability of ambulances, fire marshalls and adequate security personnel on the ground.

It stated that the matter is being investigated by the relevant authorities and their legal team has been notified.
