Opposition Spokesman on Health calls for explanation regarding sudden resignation of two key members of UHWI Board
Opposition Spokesman on Health, Dr. Morais has called on Portfolio Minister, Dr. Christopher Tufton, to immediately explain the sudden resignation of two key members of the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI) Board.
Chairman of the UHWI Board Wayne Chong and his Deputy Dr. Andre Foote, have both resigned with immediate effect.
In a statement this afternoon, Dr. Guy said the Opposition is extremely disturbed about possible instability at the hospital, as the institution is critical to the national public health care system.
He questioned whether the resignations could be related to the protracted recruitment of a new chief executive officer for the hospital.
Dr. Guy said there is disquiet at the hospital and the Minister’s intervention is necessary to resolve the issues and prevent any escalation which could lead to a disruption of services.
He said as a result, he is seeking Dr. Tufton’s urgent attention in this very concerning development, especially during the current Christmas season, which sees an increase in activities at hospitals.
