Opposition spokesman on finance calls for public sector workers to be treated with greater respect
Opposition spokesman on finance Julian Robinson has called on the finance ministry to treat public sector workers with greater respect.
He lamented that it should not have taken a publicised statement from the Police Federation to prompt the ministry to respond to the concerns of rank and file police officers.
Robinson was reacting to reports that Federation Chairman Sergeant Arleen McBean had to issue a press release to appeal for the ministry to arrange a meeting for wage talks, because the cops had become restive, following a non response to letters sent weeks ago and they deemed this to be disrespectful.
Yesterday, Finance Minister Fayval Williams said she is available to meet with the federation next Tuesday August 12.
Speaking at function in Nannyville today, Robinson also deemed the treatment meted out to the cops, by the ministry, as being disrespectful.
Robinson said yesterday’s response from the minister is unacceptable.
