Opposition Spokesman calls on gov’t to urgently address yellow fever vaccine shortage
Opposition Spokesman on Health and Wellness, Dr. Morais Guy, is calling on the government and portfolio minister Dr. Christopher Tufton, in particular, to urgently address the shortage of yellow fever vaccines in the country.
Dr. Guy says he has been reliably informed of the shortage.
In a statement today (July 15), Dr. Guy said the ministry needs to take urgent steps to ensure that vaccine shortages do not persist in the system and take immediate steps to procure yellow fever vaccine supplies, including borrowing from friendly countries.
He said while yellow fever is not endemic in Jamaica, citizens travel to many countries where the disease remains a clear and present danger.
He said the present situation is unacceptable and the government must act now, to prevent serious risk to the health of citizens.
