Opposition Senator urges leadership of parliament to meet with Integrity Commission to address issue of leaked reports

Opposition Senator Lambert Brown has recommended that the leadership of parliament meets with the Integrity Commission to address issues related to the recent leaking of reports from the commission.

Senator Brown made the recommendation at this morning’s meeting of the Senate, where a statement from Senate president Tom Tavares-Finson rebuking the chairman of the Integrity Commission, Retired Justice Seymour Panton, was read.

The statement was published following Justice Panton’s comments on leaked reports in which he noted that the leaks occurred after the reports left the commission for parliament.

Senator Tavares-Finson’s statement said he was confident in the integrity of the processes that parliament observes concerning the confidentiality of reports prior to tabling.

Further commenting on the matter of the leaks, deputy senate president Charles Sinclair said Justice Panton’s comments impugn the integrity of the parliament.

Reacting to Senator Sinclair’s comments, Senator Brown said a meeting should be held between the parties to put the issues to rest.
