Member of Parliament for St. Catherine Southern, Fitz Jackson, has called for a periodic review of the Customs Act.

Mr. Jackson made the call while speaking in parliament yesterday, before the House approved ‘The Customs Act, 2020’ with 59 amendments.

He noted that given the extensive nature of the act, a prescribed period should be set for the review of provisions therein, in the event concerns arise.

In response, Finance Minister Dr. Nigel Clarke acknowledged the concern while agreeing that the bill contains several amendments that could have unintended consequences.

The Customs Act, 2020, now heads to the Senate, to be passed.
