Opposition Leader says PM Holness’ JLP conference speech was filled with empty promises
Opposition Leader Mark Golding says Prime Minister Andrew Holness’ speech at the Jamaica Labour Party’s annual conference on Sunday, was filled with empty promises.
During the speech, Mr. Holness made several announcements, including that the General Consumption Tax, GCT, on electricity will be reduced from 15 to 7 per cent starting next year.
Speaking at a press conference hosted by the People’s National Party, this morning, Mr. Golding said the Prime Minister’s promise to reduce the GCT on light bills will not benefit the majority of Jamaica Public Service customers.
He noted that strong and capable leadership is instead needed to drive down the cost of electricity.
The PNP President said Mr. Holness’ promise to make Jamaica’s bureaucracy modern, user friendly and efficient is yet another empty promise.
Mr. Golding argued that the government has failed to fulfill previous promises and this time is no different.
