Opposition Leader says ongoing unrest in the tourism sector is a direct result of poor governance
“The ongoing unrest in Jamaica’s Tourism Sector is a direct result of poor governance.”
That’s the belief of Opposition leader, Mark Golding who has called on the government to provide urgent solutions to the systemic employment issues in the industry.
The appeal follows recent protests by hotel workers across the island over wage woes and poor working conditions.
The latest demonstration was staged yesterday by staff at Excellence Oyster Bay, in Falmouth, Trelawny.
Mr. Golding says the situation calls for an urgent comprehensive analysis of the industry, and a cohesive response from the Ministries of Labour, Tourism and Transport.
Mr. Golding also hit back at recent comments by Prime Minister Andrew Holness that some persons are taking advantage of workers’ grievances and are fueling industrial action for point scoring for political power.
Mr. Golding described Mr. Holness’ comments as disrespectful.
