Opposition Leader maintains that he is compliant with Jamaica’s Constitution, amidst questions regarding his Citizenship
Opposition Leader Mark Golding has stressed that he is compliant with the Jamaican Constitution.
He was responding to comments made by Prime Minister Andrew Holness this morning, about public servants having dual citizenship.
Mr. Holness said the political leaders of the island, should not have citizenship in another country, as this would raise concerns about loyalty.
In response, Mr. Golding noted that Holness’ proposals are not in the existing constitution, neither are they part of the Constitutional Reform.
The Constitution currently allows citizens of Commonwealth countries to serve in Jamaica’s Parliament, once they meet the residency criteria.
