Opposition describes the 18.2 million dollars spent on Jamaica’s Commonwealth Secretary-General campaign, as fiscally irresponsible
The Opposition People’s National Party (PNP) has described the 18.2 million dollars spent on Foreign Affairs Minister, Kamina Johnson Smith’s Commonwealth Secretary-General campaign, as fiscally irresponsible.
The Government has revealed that it spent the sum on what it describes as a clean, transparent, principled campaign that met the standards of accountability.
It also announced a 25 million dollar expenditure, for attendance associated with the Commonwealth Heads of Government Summit, in Kigali, Rwanda, in June.
Speaking with IRIE FM news, PNP General Secretary, Dr. Dayton Campbell says, with Jamaicans experiencing severe financial challenges, and several areas of the country needing financial attention, this amount of expenditure should not have been allowed.
He said the Government should prioritize fiscal spending over theatrics.
