Opposition calls on Health Minister to put forward independently verified completion plan with binding timelines for Cornwall Regional Hospital

Opposition Spokesperson on Health, Dr. Alfred Dawes is calling on the Health Minister to put forward an independently verified completion plan with binding timelines for the Cornwall Regional Hospital in St. James.

This as he says the hospital has now missed its target for a seventh time.

He notes that according to the Health Minister the finish line has been quietly pushed from September 2026 to “hopefully the end of year”.

According to Dr. Dawes, the project was first flagged for major rehabilitation in 2016 and promised for completion in September 2018.

He states that what began as a $2 billion project in 2018 has ballooned to $23.5 billion, an increase of $21.5 billion.

Dr. Dawes is also demanding an update on the 10,000 square foot medical dome donated to ease overcrowding and speed up patient transfers at Cornwall Regional.

The Opposition Spokesman on Health further calls for transparency and accountability on the matters surrounding renovation of the hospital.
