Opposition calls on gvrnt to provide update on arrival of Ghanaian teachers who are to join education system next week

Opposition Spokesman on Education Damion Crawford is calling on the government to provide an update on the Ghanaian teachers who are to join Jamaica’s education system in the new school year.

He made the call following the arrival of 29 Cuban teachers this week.

Speaking at a press conference yesterday, Mr. Crawford said he has not seen any update on the arrival of the Ghanaian teachers.

He said with the new school year starting on Monday, these teachers should have already been in the island.

Mr. Crawford also called on the ministry to disclose the number of Ghanaian teachers set to arrive.

Last month, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Dr. Kasan Troupe noted that Ghana and the Phillipines had expressed interest in sending teachers to Jamaica for the upcoming school term.

She said representatives from Ghana committed to visiting the island in the week of August 11 to finalize discussions.

Dr. Troupe said these educators would teach Mathematics and Science.
