Opposition calls on government to ban red dye number 3
Junior Spokesperson for Health and Wellness Jessie James Clarke is calling on the government to ban red dye number 3.
Mr. James cites recent studies which show that the synthetic food dye is linked to carcinogenic elements in rats.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently announced a ban on the use of red number 3 dye in food and cosmetic products.
The decision comes after years of concerns about the safety of the artificial colorant.
Mr. James is suggesting that the Ministry of Health educate the population on the dye and ban it locally so that persons do not get exposed to the health risks.
