Opposition calls for urgent intervention, following revelation that several JamaicaEye cameras are non-functional

The opposition is calling for urgent government intervention, following a revelation from the Minister of National Security that a significant number of surveillance cameras in the JamaicaEye system are non-functional.

Spokesman on Technology, Dr. Andre Haughton, says this failure poses a serious threat to public safety for the Christmas season, a time when crime traditionally spikes.

He says the non-functioning cameras represent a national security crisis. The spokesman explains that these devices are critical for monitoring and responding to criminal activity.

Dr. Haughton states that the government must explain how the country reached this dangerous juncture and take immediate corrective action.

Dr. Haughton is putting forward a three-pronged approach to this issue.

He is urging the government to conduct an emergency audit to assess the operational status of all JamaicaEye cameras.

The second call is for the implementation of immediate repairs. He wants the authorities to launch an emergency maintenance programme to restore functionality and thirdly to engage technology experts by partnering with local tech companies to ensure sustainable system improvements.

The PNP spokesman says Jamaicans deserve a safe and secure environment, particularly during the holiday season.

According to him, technology must be leveraged effectively in the fight against crime.
