Opposition calls for audit of Victoria jubilee Hospital, following deaths of several babies
The Opposition People’s National Party, PNP is calling for an audit to be conducted at the Victoria Jubilee Hospital, following reports that several babies passed away at the facility, due to a resistant bacteria.
Making the call at a press briefing today (October 28), Opposition Spokesman on Health Dr. Morais Guy said Health Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton must provide clarity about the unfortunate situation.
He said while there were reports of 12 babies dying, the opposition has been reliably informed that the number is in fact 14.
And, President of the PNP Women’s Movement, Patricia Duncan-Sutherland, said the Health Minister failed to inform the public about the outbreak of the bacteria early.
Meantime, while expressing condolences to the families of the babies, Opposition Leader Mark Golding renewed the call for Dr. Tufton to resign.
He said the Health Ministry, under Dr. Tufton’s guidance, has encountered several catastrophes, including the market me scandal, the handling of the oxygen shortage during the start of covid-19 pandemic, and the poor condition of the Cornwall Regional Hospital.
