One suspect fatally shot, two others held and a weapon seized as police rescued man who was kidnapped last night
Commander for Police Area 5, Assistant Commissioner of Police Gary Griffiths has commended the swift action of the St. Catherine North Police, saying the team prevented a potential tragedy, after rescuing a man who was kidnapped last night.
He adds that their work demonstrated the force’s commitment to public safety and its relentless efforts in combating crime.
Police report that a late-night operation in Tawes Meadows, Spanish Town St. Catherine saw the police successfully rescuing the man.
Reports are that the operation began at about 10:00 p.m. after a report was received that a man had been kidnapped and a ransom was being demanded.
The police launched a rescue operation.
During the course of the operation, the police encountered armed resistance.
In the ensuing engagement, one of the suspects was fatally shot, two others held, and a weapon seized.
The man who was shot and killed has not yet been identified.
The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has been informed of the incident.
The police are urging anyone with additional information to come forward to assist in the ongoing investigation.
