One of two fishermen who went missing at sea more than a month ago has died.
The Jamaica Defence Force says they were located by the Honduran authorities.
The JDF says strong regional cooperation with its partners in Honduras led to the location of the men yesterday after 35 days at sea.
The JDF explains that it launched an extensive search and rescue operation to locate the missing fishermen who were reported missing on October 29.
Alerts were issued to partners in the Cayman Islands, Haiti, Belize, Honduras, and Guatemala and other seafarers to be on the lookout for the fishermen and their vessel.
The JDF says the men’s families have been notified of their status and the JDF and the Honduran authorities are coordinating the repatriation efforts.
The JDF is reminding all marine interests that overdue vessels or vessels in distress can be reported to the joint rescue coordination centre at (876) 967-8193.
