Olympic silver medallist Kishane Thompson headlines a star-studded lineup set to compete at the 49th staging of the Gibson/Mckook Relays at the National Stadium on Saturday.
Joining him are Olympic 200 metres bronze medallist Bryan Levell, World Championship sprint relay silver medallists Tia Clayton and Tina Clayton, as well as World Championship 400m hurdles bronze medallist Rushell Clayton.
The meet serves as a key dress rehearsal ahead of the annual ISSA Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships in March.
Thompson is down to contest the men’s 60 metres, where he is set to face former national champion Rohan Watson, Akeem Blake and Levell in what promises to be a thrilling showdown.
In the women’s equivalent, the Clayton twins will renew their rivalry with Natasha Morrison and Bahamian standout Anthonique Strachan.
Clubs and traditional powerhouse schools will also clash in the 4x100m, 4x200m, 4x800m and the mile relays, adding further excitement to the programme.
A total of 42 events will be contested, including 17 championship events.
Athletes will also be chasing a lucrative incentive, with a $75,000 bonus on offer for any record-breaking performance.
Teams from Barbados, Antigua and Barbuda, and the United States are expected to test their strength against Jamaica’s finest, giving the meet an added international flavour.
Action begins at 4:00 p.m. with three field events, while the track programme opens with the prep school Under-12 boys’ 4x100m final.
On the boys’ side, traditional giants Kingston College, Jamaica College, Calabar High School, Excelsior High School and St Jago High School are set to renew their fierce rivalry.
In the girls’ division, Hydel High School will face stern competition from Edwin Allen High School, corporate champions Immaculate Conception High School, along with Holmwood Technical High School, St Jago and Wolmer’s Girls’ School.
Meanwhile, the men’s high jump final is expected to draw significant attention as Olympic finalist Raymond Richards, who has already cleared a season’s best 2.31 metres, will headline a field of 12 competitors.
The other field events at the start of the programme will be the men’s pole vault and the women’s long jump final, setting the stage for an action-packed evening at the National Stadium.
