Olympic discus champion Roje Stona invited to participate in NFL’s International Player Pathway Programme
Olympic discus champion Roje Stona has been invited to participate in the NFL’s prestigious International Player Pathway Programme in January.
The 25 year old, who made history by becoming Jamaica’s first Olympic Gold medalist in a throwing event at the Paris 2024 Games, will be among 14 athletes taking part in the 10-week training camp in Florida.
The International Player Pathway program, formed back in 2017, aims to identify and develop global talent for American Football, with selected athletes undergoing intensive field and classroom training to refine their skills before showcasing their abilities to NFL scouts ahead of the 2025 NFL draft.
Some 41 international players have joined NFL teams since the programme inception, and of those, 23 are currently affiliated with teams in the NFL, and six have earned spots on active rosters.
Stona, who won gold in an Olympic record 70 metres, was in may of this year invited to rookie mini camps by the Green Bay Packers and New Orleans Saints.
