Culture Minister Olivia Grange has sought to clarify that the reparations petition to King Charles III does not include a monetary claim.
She said the clarification comes amidst reports that the Jamaican Government had made a monetary claim in its petition to the King.
She stressed that the petition asks the King, in his capacity as Head of State of Jamaica, to refer questions about the legality of chattel slavery to the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council.
Ms. Grange said Jamaica anticipates that it will be referred to the Privy Council and is awaiting the decision.
