ODPEM confirms no tsunami warning issued for Jamaica following regional threat
The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) confirms that no tsunami warning was issued for Jamaica following yesterday’s tsunami threat in the region.
ODPEM explained that an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.6 occurred off the coast of George Town, Cayman Islands.
While Jamaica was given an advisory for a possible tsunami wave, no official warning was issued.
The main areas of concern were Honduras and the Cayman Islands.
ODPEM, in conjunction with the Meteorological Service and supported by the Constabulary Force is responsible for issuing tsunami warnings for Jamaica based on data from the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.
Notifications were made to the National Tsunami Response Team and the Parish Response Mechanism.
ODPEM has issued an all-clear bulletin for the region, as the tsunami threat has passed.
