Observe group CAFFE says its involvement in elections helps maintain integrity of the process
Citizens Action for Free and Fair Elections (CAFFE) has stressed that its involvement in elections helps maintain the integrity of the process.
CAFFE Chairman Grace Baston said this against Jamaica’s history of violence and irregularities in past elections.
She cited claims by some sections of society that with the positive turn-around over time, there is no longer a need for the observer group.
Mrs Baston said, on the contrary, the continued presence of observers, prevents Jamaica from returning to problematic elections.
About 600 CAFFE observers will be deployed to monitor activities during today’s general election and local government by-elections.
They will, among other things, seek to ensure that the voting process follows the law.
