NWC amnesty to be expanded to include persons with disabilities

A special criterion will be established under the National Water Commission (NWC’s) amnesty programme to provide relief for persons with disabilities, or their verified caregivers.

In its original state, the amnesty programme announced last November is for customers who have been disconnected for debts to the NWC for two years or more.

At the time of the announcement, beneficiaries of the three-month amnesty also included pensioners or those who were assessed as being in need based on the Programme of Advancement through Health and Education (PATH) beneficiary identification standards.

Speaking at a post-Cabinet press briefing this morning, Labour and Social Security Minister, Pearnel Charles jr said his team recognizes the importance of expanding the amnesty programme to persons with disabilities.

To access the amnesty, persons with disability must be registered with the Jamaica Council for Persons with Disabilities (JCPD).
