Nurses Association to meet with Finance Ministry to discuss compensation issues next Tuesday
The compensation negotiating team of the Nurses Association of Jamaica (NAJ) convened a tactical meeting this afternoon, ahead of next week’s appointment with the Ministry of Finance.
In a statement, the NAJ confirmed that it was invited to a meeting on Tuesday, January 16, in relation to outstanding matters of the compensation review.
It said its negotiating team was locked in a meeting to strategize in preparation for Tuesday’s talk with the Ministry.
The meeting comes amidst the reported sickout by several nurses.
According to the Southeast Regional Health Authority, the Spanish Town, Kingston Public and the Victoria Jubilee Hospitals saw a decline in the number of nurses who showed up for work.
It noted, however, that the affected hospitals are utilizing the services of nurses who recently graduated and have obtained their licenses.
Those new nurses started their orientations this week.
Hospitals in the Southern Region were also impacted.
