Nurses Association awaiting meeting with Finance Ministry’s Compensation Unit regarding extra hours policy

The Nurses Association of Jamaica (NAJ) says it is awaiting the date for a meeting it requested with the Finance Ministry’s compensation unit regarding the implementation of the extra hours worked (EHW) policy.

The policy implemented by the government under the compensation review system took effect on August 1, last year.

However, the NAJ says there is disparity in how it is being implemented by health authorities.

NAJ President Dawn Marie Richards said members have raised concern about the disparity and as a result, the association requested a meeting with the Finance Ministry’s Compensation Unit.

While noting that nurses are extremely agitated, she said the delivery of service to the public is not expected to be affected as a result.

Mrs. Richards said the concerns will be discussed further at the association’s meeting on Saturday.
